If you would ask me to summarize my book club reco this month… I would have a tough time doing so.
But since you asked, I’ll try.
The Signature of All Things is sort of a period novel about a botanist from a unique and colorful lineage. But mixed into this very solid, scientifically minded protagonist there’s an unexpected raunchy plot line… narrated in a proper, turn of the century manner. It’s bizarre!
I’m of a nerdy, inquisitive-type mind so I actually liked reading about all of the trade and empire building that went into this botanist’s acquisition of wealth and fame.
But then out of nowhere this sexually charged stuff was like WOAH. What??
I have to admit, I’m only halfway through the novel but I don’t need to finish it to recommend it to you all.
I think it would make a great beach or plane read. I read the first 200 pages or so on a cross-country flight and it kept my attention the entire time.
Let me know if you have any other good reads on your nightstand!
